This GR connects the town of Santa Cruz das Flores to the bathing area of Fajã Grande, on the west coast. The first part has long, deep valleys in which a number of streams flow and a coastal stretch with steep terrain and many islets. The second half takes in one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in the Azores, where the lavic and detrital fajãs [flat coastal features formed by lava flows and collapsed cliffs] such as Fajã Grande and Fajãzinha are separated from the central plateau of the island by an extensive fossil cliff about 350 m in height, where numerous streams form impressive waterfalls on the hillside.
