Along the stage between Adrão and Mezio one lives and breathes the air of the Soajo mountain, a rugged upland, marked by its imponent granite slopes. However, the route reveals far more than just a granite landscape. Among the valleys and hills are to be found idyllic woodlands, the local flora and fauna, streams of crystalline water, old brandas for livestock... and so, another aspect of the mountain is revealed. The hues of the landscape change with each season, alternating between the greens, purples and yellows of the warmer seasons, the reddish yellow of autumn and the brown and grey tones of winter when the scenery is often enveloped by fog. On this route one can discover old ‘brandas’ such as Branda de Bordença with its totally abandoned nucleus of dwellings, but whose setting and surrounding landscape catches one’s attention! The walk is along old granite pavements built by generations past driven by the need for access to the resources provided by the uplands. After passing through a small area of the Mezio Forest, the walk ends at Porta do Mezio visitor centre where there awaits a display of all that has been seen along the way.
