The route heads north from Castro Laboreiro, following the old central connection between the ‘brandas’ and ‘inverneiras’ on the right bank of the Castro Laboreiro River. The track is easy, keeping more or less at the same level, thereby providing some freedom for observation. The beauty and diversity of the landscape is the signature for this stage, providing unique scenes for photography and opportunities for the observation of birds within the rural and forest environment.
After crossing the Porto Seco stream by way of the beautiful Ponte das Veigas (17th century), the route leads into a flat area with little tree cover and with extensive views, in which surroundings stand out the high ridges that rise up between the valleys of the Laboreiro and Peneda rivers. On climbing to the hilltop, then heading towards Lamas de Mouro, there is an opportunity to interpret the landscape and the location of the highest, temporary, settlements (brandas), and the lower, permanent settlements (Castro Laboreiro). The walk ends at the Porta de Lamas de Mouro visitor centre.
