A walk through the local ‘Castreja’ culture, visiting ‘inverneiras’ (winter settlements) whilst enjoying the scenery of the Laboreiro hills and valleys. The route connects Ameijoeira and Castro Laboreiro, following one of the old tracks used for seasonal migration between the ‘Brandas’ (summer settlements) and ‘Inverneiras’.

Departing from Ameijoeira, the route follows an asphalt surfaced lane that leads down, after crossing a bridge, to the right bank of the Castro Laboreiro River. It then goes on to the ‘inverneira’ of Pontes. Continuing north, following the river, the way reaches the imposing Roman bridge of Cava da Velha, one of the most beautiful bridges in the Laboreiro valley. The track then follows through the ‘inverneira’ of Assureira and, shortly after, the ‘inverneira’ of Podre. It then continues to the ‘inverneiras’ of Ponte do Barreiro and Barreiro, then coming to a more natural area, passing through the fantastic Barreiro oak wood. The route then passes by Gontamil pond, climbing to the top of a ridge before finally reaching the village of Castro Laboreiro.
