After strolling through the Esperança house (o casario da Esperança), we continue to Hortas de Cima, where the route is located in a transitional zone between the smooth undultion of the peneplain and the rugged ups-and-downs that extends to the cliffs of the Serra de São Mamede. We continue to the old Marco border (fronteira do Marco), where the Ribeira de Abrilongo stream divides the two countries. The route continues through the mountains where the largest cork oaks in the region are found. We descend to flatter lands, in the Hortas de Baixo. We go up to Hawk’s Cove (Lapa dos Gaivões), where we can observe the rock paintings in Lapa dos Gaviões.
