Monchique is synonymous of nature at its purest. The route, if somewhat demanding due to the terrain, goes through areas of great natural beauty. Start along the road to Alferce. The traffic is light and you can admire the view over the northern territory. There, turn southwards, uphill to Picota. The second-highest point in the Algarve, is the most-visited place in the municipality. The scenery is stunning. Riding to Fornalha, you’ll travel a country road with uneven surface and to Caldas de Monchique and its famous medicinal waters. The return to Monchique will be demanding.
