The Rota Vicentina extends over the Algarve and the Alentejo and there are two itineraries standing out due to their landscape diversity. The Caminho Histórico, with 230 km, is the longest itinerary starting in Santiago do Cacém and ending in the emblematic Cabo de São Vicente. This is a rural itinerary with 12 stages, by foot or bike, through trails of forests, villages and towns with centuries of history. The “Trilho dos Pescadores” connects Porto Covo to Odeceixe, extending over a total of 111 km that can be made exclusively by foot.
You may plan your itinerary according to your interest and fitness level, but it is possible to make a stage per day with a maximum of 25 km. This Route can be made in a sequential way, where you will be able to get some rest in accommodation units across the Rota Vicentina, visit the historic heritage and taste traditional delicacies of both Alentejo and Algarve, with fresh fish and seafood dishes standing out.
The Caminho Histórico of the Rota Vicentina was awarded with the European Certification of “Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe” given by the European Ramblers Association (ERA), being therefore included in the exclusive set of best European trail destinations.
