This stage extends between Pitões das Júnias and Tourém, covering about 12.5 km between these two Barroso villages. The stage has an international element since it includes a section within Galicia. It follows along lanes, farm and forestry tracks and footpaths, leading to an upland plateau. There are no support services between the two villages. Make sure you are properly provisioned before starting out.

The route follows along the shallow depression and valley of the Valongo stream in which occurs an ecosystem of habitats which has a wealth of biodiversity. This gentle depression marks the transition between the landscapes of the granite peaks of the Gerês mountain range and the gentle relief of the Mourela plateau. From Portela de Pitões (border mark 67) the route continues along the Spanish section of the stage, heading east along the forest path that leads to Alto do Pisco. The view is fabulous! Near border mark 78 the route re-enters Portuguese territory and begins the descent into Tourém, where the stage ends.
