This stage connects Campo do Gerês to Vila do Gerês following ancestral tracks and paths used by local communities to access the resources of the mountain. The route is set in a mountain environment, crossing one of the uplands of the Gerês mountain range. This is a watershed which means that part of the route, more specifically to Junceda, is all uphill and the second part a descent. From Junceda the route drops down the hillside to Vila do Gerês, passing through areas particularly affected by the disordered growth of mimosa, a fast-growing exotic and invasive species. Along this hillside the route is marked by the regular presence of viewpoints, from where it is possible to see the Gerês fault-line valley, the granite features of the Gerês mountains beyond and the spa town below. After climbing the Penedo da Freira, the stage ends in the spa town of Gerês.
