A Caminho do Tejo
Grande Rota do Zêzere / Walking
The presence of the River Tagus can be felt on the final section of the Zêzere grand route. We continue through a natural paradise, surrounded by pine forests, with a rich ecosystem created by the varied vegetation (Cluster pine, eucalyptus, strawberry trees, heather and olives) and perfect conditions for the development of fish species. It is possible to appreciate all of the flora and spot the huge range of bird life for which the region is known. Highlights are the rare red-necked nightjar, the goshawk and white stork, as well as the osprey. On roads and on forest tracks, we pass narrow streets and garden walls, fields of crops and plantations of stone pines and trees bearing fruits such as figs, cherries and vines.
