Piódão - Castelo Novo
Grande Rota das Aldeias Históricas / Walking
Leaving Piódão the route follows along the Serra do Açor ridge and skirts the head of the Rio Ceira watershed to Pico de Cebola. With a view over Cova da Beira, the descent goes towards São Jorge da Beira. From here, go to Portela de Unhais and go down to Povoa de Raposeira, until you reach Dornelas do Zêzere. Cross the river Zêzere and go up to Alqueidão and then go down to Bogas de Cima, where you follow the stream to Malhada Velha. From here it starts a descent to Ribeira de Eiras, crosses the Rio Tripeiro until the Partida. After leaving the Partida, you will alternately cross a pine forest area with the EM525 until you reach São Vicente da Beira. The route goes up through Casal da Serra, reaches Casa da Floresta, and continues through the interior of Serra da Gardunha until reaching Castelo Novo.
