São Jacinto - ferry boat (Aveiro) » Santuário de Nª Srª de Vagos
Grande Rota da Ria de Aveiro - Percurso Azul / Walking
Between São Jacinto and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Vagos the salt water prevails along the landscape. The route starts by ferryboat crossing the navigation channel between São Jacinto and the Barra Fort, in the middle of the Aveiro Port, in Gafanha da Nazaré. This navigation channel allows access to the most industrial port terminals. Continuing through the Oudinot Garden, where the Santo André Museum Ship is anchored, the coastal fishing activities are observed, with the fishing trawlers and the fish unloading in the Lota as background. This channel of the Ria de Aveiro - the Mira - accompanies along a significant part of the route, on the paths of Praião and the Channel to Gafanha da Vagueira. The Ria's scenery, always different due to the activities of bivalve harvesting and cultivation, lagoon fishing or even the practice of colorful nautical sports, contrasts with the farming fields on land, in mosaics very typical of this area. We can then go to Vagueira, place of the "arte xávega", where the tractors currently pull the fishing nets launched from the traditional and colorful wooden boats to the beach, or go directly to the inspiring Sanctuary of Our Lady of Vagos.
