Surrounded by the blue of the Sado River and the green of the Arrábida Mountains, Setúbal belongs to the restricted club of the most beautiful bays in the world. This is a city worth visiting to get to know its valuable cultural heritage, in which the Convent of Jesus and the Fort of São Filipe stand out.
The first stop in Section 8 is the Urban Park of Albarquel, at the foothills of the mountain, overlooking Troia and the Sado estuary, the natural habitat of a community of dolphins. The route crosses the Arrábida Mountain, classified as a Natural Park, following a road with astonishing landscapes, where it is worth making some stops and discover its charming beaches or visit the forts and the convent.
To replenish your energies, there's nothing like tasting the delicious regional products such as cheese and tortas de Azeitão, a traditional cake from Azeitão, top-quality wines or the freshest fish. This is also one of the attractions of Sesimbra, an area of excellent beaches and diverse landscapes in which the high cliffs and escarpments which host small coves stand out.
From this area the route departs from the coast and ends at the Cacilhas river station where the boat can be taken to Lisbon (Cais do Sodré) connecting to Section 9.
