This path starts next to the National Palace of Sintra following Praça da Republica in the direction of the Tourist Office. Its main points of interest are the Sabuga fountain, Sta. Maria Church, S. Pedro de Penaferrim, the Moorish castle, the Pena Palace and the Liberdade park. Circular route in Sintra hills partially in territory classified as Nature Park and included in the Sintra-Cascais site in Natura 2000 network. Here are a fabulous set of monuments from different times - are signs of human occupation since Neolithic - and one of the best European sets of flora from all over the world, especially on the northern slopes of the Sintra hills earning. In fact it goes through the exuberant vegetation, coming from all over the world, planted from the nineteenth century onwards. Highlight the green Park and Pena National Palace, epitome of Romanticism in Portugal, and the Moorish castle and its interpretation center. The Arabs were responsible for the primitive fortification of the cliffs, designated 'Moorish Castle', between the 8th and 9th centuries. It controlled the land routes linking Mafra, Sintra, Cascais and Lisbon. In 1147, Afonso Henriques conquered the castle, giving it a Chapel - St. Peter (S. Pedro). Don’t forget Sabuga fountain and the view over the hill and valley with pine, oak, chestnut, plane, cypress, Australian cheesewood (exotic and invasive plant in Sintra) and palm trees, and the view over the valley, above the convent of Trindade, with araucarias, thujas, palm trees, Japanese cedars, walnuts and loquats
