Accompanying the Serra da Peneda, the route passes through oak woods and areas of mixed woodlands, escorting and crossing over streams of crystal clear waters, where one can see the heritage left by the forestry services of the old [Salazar] regime, following one of the old pilgrim ways, in search of the sumptuous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peneda. The route unravels along the bottom of the valleys of the Mouro, Tieiras and Peneda rivers, with an ascent to Portela do Lagarto. The itinerary is striking for its fresh riverine environment and deciduous woodlands, superimposed by a sense of devotion and spirituality. The walk finishes in a unique landscape, marked by the unlikely location of the monumental Sanctuary of Senhora da Peneda, set at the foot of the sheer granite face of Fraga da Meadinha, from where cascades a 30-meter-high waterfall.
