The Caminho do Rio, in Vila Nova Cerveira, offers a chance to discover a distinctive landscape. The natural conditions of this route are ideal for the presence of several bird species, such as mallard ducks, herons and kingfishers; mammals such as otters and martens; amphibians such as frogs and salamanders; and fish such as bogue and trout. Due to its natural importance and diversity, the Caminho do Rio is included in the network of Natura 2000 and the Protected Area for Waterfowl of the Estuary of the Minho River.
