Eurovelo 1 - The Atlantic Coast Route gives direct access to several beaches and is known for forming part of the European network of cycle routes, connecting Vila Real de Santo António with the North Cape in Scandinavia, running along the entire Portuguese coastline as far as Caminha in the north of the country. This route crosses the entire Algarve region, with its 214 km length connecting Vila Real de Santo António (east) with Cabo de S. Vicente (west). It is also known as the coast Ecovia, and it continues for around 50 km more to Aljezur, on the south west coast. The route, on which magnificent landscapes unfold along the length of the coast, passes through cities, towns and areas of preserved nature, such as the Formosa Estuary Natural Park and the South-West Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. It includes tracks for the exclusive use of non-motorised vehicles, and other mixed traffic routes, on streets and roads with little traffic.
